Extended Day Keeps Students Active and Engaged
Young Scholars of McKeesport Charter School offers a dynamic extended day program on Monday through Thursday. The Extended Day Program is available to YSM students, kindergarten through eighth grade. Students in the program are provided with a closely structured and supervised schedule of activities. The program is free of cost and a great way to engage students in a safe and fun environment.
The Extended Day Program is divided into trimesters each year. Students may select one or two clubs each day to attend.
The Extended Day Program also provides the children with:
- ongoing relationships with caring adults
- an environment that strengthens social skills and character
- healthy snacks and/or meals to meet students’ nutritional needs
- safe and well-designed indoor and outdoor spaces
Our clubs are divided according to grade level and most are open to all ages. Some clubs meet several times a week, and others meet once a week. There are a total of ten sessions each week for club activity, so some students may participate in just two clubs a week, and others might participate in ten clubs. A healthy snack and break are provided each day before the first club meets to give the students some down time before heading to an activity. Homework help is provided as a daily club choice for all grade levels except kindergarten.
Fees: The Extended Day Program is free of cost. Some clubs require an additional cost for enrollment, uniforms or equipment.
About the instructors: Club instructors are YSM teachers, volunteers, college students, and hired professionals. All instructors must pass a criminal background check and child abuse clearance, as well as stringent reference checks and FBI fingerprinting clearances.
